Cynthia Smith
Cynthia is a native of Monmouth County. She holds a BS in Biology and an MA in education
from Virginia Tech and has completed PhD work in Molecular Biology at the University of
Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Before teaching at New School HS, Cynthia
worked as a chemist and microbiologist for The Walt Disney Company and was head of the
science department at the Smith School in Manhattan. She has also taught Biology,
Chemistry, and Physical Science at Keyport HS. After the birth of her son, Zachary, Cynthia
volunteered on special projects at New School HS and worked as a part time assistant in The
New School’s Younger Class before taking on the co-directorship of New School
Dale R Thompson
Dale is co-founder of NSHS. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Berklee College of Music and a Master's Degree in Education from Rutgers University. Before starting NSHS he taught high school, 7th and 8th grade in Perth Amboy, NJ. He has taught Social Studies, American History, Internet Web-Page design, and Text-specific reading skills (EWT and HSPT). Dale helped develop an interdisciplinary curriculum project for the Eisenhower Foundation and has given "in-service" presentations to other teachers on interdisciplinary education, the core curriculum standards, and making school fun. Dale's children, Aaron and Ben, attend The New School of Monmouth County.
